A kind and fraternal elemental creature.
Many a race has risen and fallen throughout the expansive history of the Land of Dawn. Belerick is one of the few who have borne witness to all this throughout the mists of time. When the world was first formed, the mysterious Ancient Ones aided the Forefathers as they created all things in this universe. Together they constructed the grand and massive Celestial Palace and the myriad elemental creatures, who would live as successors to their bloodlines.
When Belerick was but a young sapling, he was chosen by the Ancient Ones and given the essence of life and Mother Nature; this bestowed upon him the powers of intelligent thought, deep wisdom, and the wondrous ability of reincarnation. Under the Ancient Ones' protection he lived together with the elemental creatures within the Lantis Mountain ranges, a place flourishing with life and vitality.
However, this blissful existence would not last long. The Forefathers departed and the Endless War descended upon the lands, plunging the Land of Dawn into the throes of fierce battle and slaughter; the Ancient Ones retreated to the Celestial Palace and the elemental creatures thus lost the protection they'd once been granted. The creatures were left without a safe home of their own, and slain en masse as the fires of war blazed ever on.
They were forced to wander the lands for an entire age. Belerick watched as the Land of Dawn was ravaged by the raging war, no corner left untouched by the fighting. As he did so, Belerick grew from a sapling into a mighty tree. The warfare had stripped him of his former life, and hardened his power of will; despite having lost many of his companions in the process, he nonetheless refused to give up the hope he had in life. He sought to use his power to the best of his ability in helping out those weaker than him. In the later stages of the Era of Strife, the Ancient Ones who had returned to their Celestial Palace long ago could no longer stand the pitiable state of the world below, and went against the orders of the Forefathers as they rashly used the Twilight Orbs' power to try and end the war.
The incredible power of the Twilight Orbs sealed the Lord of the Abyss and isolated the Lord of Light, yet on top of this, it caused an unprecedented surge in energy. There was an earth-shaking explosion, and in its wake, the once brilliant and powerful Ancient Ones were gone without a single trace, lost to history. This was when Belerick's long journey was to begin: while continuing to come to the aid of all the needy in the Land of Dawn, he would also search for the whereabouts of his ancestors—the Ancient Ones.
This journey of his stretched over several millennia, the sands of time granting Belerick not only additional growth rings within his mighty trunk, but also a wealth of experience, wisdom, and an ever-greater compassion for all living things. Starting out from the Lantis Mountains, he would travel onward to every single corner throughout the Land of Dawn, and whenever his branches started to wither he'd transform once more into a tiny seed. From this seed he would grow once more, an infinite cycle of reincarnation. Throughout this time he endeavored to utilize his wisdom and power to aid everyone he met, big or small, no matter their race. Yet he could never find any clues as to the whereabouts of his ancestors, the Ancient Ones, or of the Twilight Orbs.
As trade thrived and the Emerald Road flourished, rumors of the Twilight Orbs began to spread throughout the Agelta Drylands, which sparked hope in the heart of Belerick. However, upon finally finishing his arduous trek to the western wastelands, he was met with a distressing sight: its city-states had been locked in battle over the Twilight Orbs, which had once again led to their explosion. A fatal blow had been dealt to the once-prosperous Emerald Road. The ubiquitous oases of Agelta and its cities with their burgeoning populations were no more. In their place stood instead dilapidated ruins, and desert as far as the eye could see. As he laid eyes upon the poor folk struggling in the harsh, sandy environment, Belerick decided to use the entirety of his powers to bring forth a great oasis where the Emerald Road center once was. The oasis was a godsend, a place teeming with life and vitality that served as a shelter and home to all those who needed it.
Belerick exerted himself to the limit in order to bring about such a miraculous oasis, and fell into a deep slumber. A millennium passed, during which the Twilight Orbs reappeared once more and awakened him from his ancient sleep. Upon awakening, the blood of the Ancient Ones that flowed within him reacted with the Twilight Orbs and gave rise to the most incredible resonance; more than this, however, it freed Lunox who had been sealed within. It was then that Belerick finally realized the answers he had sought for so long were here, in Lunox and the other Twilight Orbs. Hence he set upon his journey once again, roaming the wide world in a search for the remaining Twilight Orbs.
Eventually, Lunox and Belerick arrived within the Elf kingdom of Azrya. The demon armies had long been preparing to set out from the Shadow Swamp, and they broke through the enchantments placed by the Moon Goddess to launch their invasion upon the Moonlit Forest. Through Azrya, they would then siege the whole of the Moniyan Empire. Estes and Miya led the Moon Elves to put up a desperate resistance, dealing a heavy blow to the demon forces; yet the demons were so enraged by this hindrance to their march that they used arcane fire to set the Tree of Life, upon which all Elves depended, alight. The furious flames roared high in the skies within a matter of seconds, and proved impossible to quench: the distraught Elves could only watch with horror on their faces as their sacred tree went up in flames. There was nothing they could do.
The fires burned ever brighter, and the Elves fell ever further into despair. Just when all hope had been lost, a web of thick vines stretched across the furious flames and wrapped the Tree of Life tightly in their grasp; first one layer of vines, then another, and another... Belerick extended his branches and all of his leaves, and with his own body he enveloped the Tree of Life. In its place, his leaves began to fall.
The fire blazed harder, with no sign of stopping. Belerick's body grew a charcoal-black, and he started to fall repeatedly. By the time the last flame began to dwindle, Lunox's tragic cries and the mournful song of the Elves could be heard throughout the expanse of the Moonlit Forest. Just at that moment, from beneath the withered and blackened branches buried in ash, there burst forth a surge of vitality. The silver moon rose high in the sky as leaves sprouted anew, and the Tree of Life's bountiful energies flowed forth into a tiny seed that remained. With a monumental force that shook the ground, the seed split off into branches and sprouts, growing at an unreal rate—not only was Belerick returned to life, but he was brought back a stronger and taller being, a truly magnificent tree.
Lunox and Belerick bade the Elves their farewell, and set off once more upon their journey to seek out the other Twilight Orbs. With his new, reinvigorated body, Belerick's faith had grown only stronger, and he knew that the true meaning of life was to help others, with all his strength.
