Sora

Amidst the windswept sands of the Agelta Drylands, a boy named Sora drifts as freely as the flowing clouds. Pure and free-spirited, he wields fists wreathed in ever-shifting clouds—sometimes as thunderclouds crackling with fierce lightning, other times accumulating into thick cumulus clouds to shield against the desert's fury. Adventure calls to Sora like an alluring song, drawing him deep into uncharted desert ruins where he seeks out mysterious wonders. Yet the people know that when droughts loom and despair takes hold he will come riding the winds, bearing the precious rains their parched lands crave. Now Sora continues his journey along the ancient Emerald Road, carrying rain-bearing clouds to every corner of the desert, and hope to every desperate tribe.

A Cloudseeker's Song

Ninety-nine oases crossed, ninety-nine sandstorms weathered.

In the heart of ancient ruins, where thunder calls, the mystical clouds gather.

Mystical clouds, oh mystical clouds, grant me your life giving rain, shelter me from swirling sands, and awaken the sleeping earth...

—The Camel Bell Traveler, A Cloudseeker's Song

Centuries ago, a struggle born of greed triggered a catastrophic explosion of a fragment of the Twilight Orb in the heart of Agelta, obliterating many ancient cities and reducing the once-magnificent Emerald Road to ruins. Since that cataclysm, Agelta became known as the Agelta Drylands, consumed by the relentless sands, its former glory fading into the endless scorching expanse. Yet there are always young souls stirred by that ancient Cloudseeker's Song, who dare to chase the clouds across the dunes with unwavering resolve. Just like Sora, who first heard the Cloudseeker's Song during a devastating drought.

"Elder! I will definitely find the mystical clouds! And bring life back into this desert!"

Sora declared his purpose with burning conviction, but the tribal elder merely shook his head with a weary, knowing smile—adults, after all, whould never stake their lives on empty legends. But Sora would not be swayed, his voice rang through every corner of his tribe. When the moon crested the dunes, other young hearts kindled by his determination gathered in the shadows. They shouldered their traveling packs and set forth together into the vast unknown, chasing dreams of the mystical coulds.

At first, the adventure seemed filled with wonder and possibility. But when only endless seas of sand stretched ahead, their true trial began. As their waterskins ran dry beneath the merciless sun, hope withered like flowers in the scorching desert. "I can smell it in the air—the mystical clouds are resting not far from here. Just a bit further!" Sora wore an expression of content. The others closed their eyes and sniffed the air, They also began to smell that crisp sense of mist in the air. This quickly lifted their weary soulds, and they pressed onward, cresting dunes ahead until—an oasis! Was this mere chance, or had their collective hope conjured a miracle?

But their quest was far from over, and after this blessed respite came another stretch of howling sandstorms. When the fiercest of the storms hit, they lost all direction, curled against the rocks, clutching their precious packs. But amid the shrieking winds, Sora gathered their cloaks piece by precious piece, and weaved them into a tent of ingenious design—as if conjuring their very own cloud against the sandstorm's fury. Outside their tent, wind and sand raged with ancient fury; within, Sora envisioned a hopeful future: they would find the mystical clouds, the elders would welcome them home with untold pride, and their tribe would bloom with life once more... As the light in Sora's eyes blazed brighter than the desert sun, his once-shaken companions found solace.

After crossing ninety-nine oases and weathering ninety-nine sandstorms, the mystical clouds still eluded them. Though Sora's faith burned undiminished, his companions' resolve crumbled one by one until he could no longer hold them. At last, they reached the desert's heart, where no mystical clouds awaited—only ruins swallowed by endless sand. Worse still, a colossal sandstorm that devoured the very skin bore down upon them, threatening to bury them alongside every trace of their desperate journey.

''"We're finished. There are no mystical clouds."

"This whole journey was a fool's errand!"

"Sora, how long will you keep lying to yourself!"

As his companions collapsed into despair and anguish, Sora fixed his gaze upon the approaching storm, and from it eye came a sound—the faint but unmistakable rumble of thunder. "Hey, do you remember how the song ends? 'In the heart of ancient ruins, where thunder calls, the mystical clouds gather'. We're almost there!"

Sora turned to face his broken companions:

"I will carry all our hopes to the end!"''

Without hesitation he leaped into the maw of the storm.

The tempest's fury seized Sora and dragged him inward, but instead of being torn asunder, he found himself floating in a strange place. Here, he saw puffs of clouds and wisps of sand that took the shape of the young adventurers who had once journeyed here in search of the mystical clouds.

Sora suddenly heard their voices echo:

"I swore to my friends I would find the mystical clouds!"

''"I won't let Agelta be a desert of despair any longer!"

"Our tribe will flourish with life once more!"''

Following the echoes, Sora beheld a strange radiance pulsing at the center of the space—a fragment of the very Twilight Orb whose explosion had once fractured the Agelta Drylands, its lingering energy still coursing through this hallowed space. This energy possessed the miraculous ability to transmute the abstract into reality; the unfulfilled dreams of all those could-seeking adventurers had been touched by its influence, crystallizing into the monuments that surrounded him. An overwhelming surge of purpose flooded Sora's heart as he reached toward the energy core—if it could truly give form to their hopes, then let it resonate with him... with everyone who had ever sought the clouds in this desert!

In an instant, the clouds and illusions dissipated, streaming toward Sora's outstretched hands—evaporating, expanding, spiraling skyward, condensing into living clouds. Thunder cracked like the world's awakening as Sora burst forth from the eye of the storm, transformed into the mystical cloud like in the legends. His took on the form of billowing cumulus clouds to shield against the sandstorm's fury, then thunderclouds to shatter ancient debris with lightning—until at last, the chaos felt silent.

As the tempest cleared, the sky opened up. Long-awaited rain poured forth in torrents, and his companions finally understood the true meaning of the Cloudseeker's Song: the one who seeks the mystical cloud must, through unshakable resolve, become the cloud itself.

Now sora carries clouds that will never fade in his palms, as eternal as the determination in his heart. He wanders Agelta's vast golden sands with Belerick and Floryn, breathing new life into parched land. When new adventurers pass by, chanting that ancient song, the cloud guiding them would stop to join their chorus.

"Ninety-nine oases crossed, ninety-nine sandstorms weathered..."
